Sometimes we are so busy doing our own thing that we are not open to the message from our Father above. For the last many years I have been urged to write and illustrate for children. My background has been working with children in many different ways. I have sub-taught, been a paraprofessional, tutored, home schooled, and almost any way that I can help one or many children face this worrisome world we are living in today.
I am also the mother of four, grandmother of twenty some grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. I have been called upon to give custodial assistance to five of my grandchildren for brief periods of time. As I worked in the elementary school as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional I observed several children who seemed to yearn for someone to care about them.
As a paraprofessional I was committed to attending all of the classes of one student in particular. When it was time for art classes, I would do the same assignment that the class was given. The kids were extremely interested in my art as was the teacher. From the children came the same thing, “I wish I could do that.”
From the teacher was the observance that he would like to see what I could do with watercolors. I bought myself a set of watercolors and some paper. One day I took a picture I had painted and gave it to him. He said, “Well, it looks like you have found your own signature in art.” His words of encouragement meant the world to me and so this is the encouragement I want to pass on.
